Amy started taking riding lessons at age 9 at Meadowbrook Farm, which at the time, was located in Charlotte where the Arboretum is now. Her wonderful parents bought her first horse when she was 12, a 2 year old Quarter Horse named Sonshine, who she rode and showed locally during her Jr. High and High School years. Sadly, she had to sell him when she graduated from High School but the following year began her professional career. In 1987, at the beginning of her sophomore year, she discovered MacNair's Country Acres in Raleigh, NC. While in school at NC State, she helped to manage the barn, and was an instructor for their lesson and summer camp program. She also had the opportunity to ride and show many different horses, which made her appreciate not having her own. Upon moving back to Charlotte in 1993, she worked at Brigadoon Farm where she helped develop the lesson and summer camp programs, taught lessons, rode training horses, helped to manage the barn, and whipped-in for their own Flat Branch Fox Hunt.
Amy had her daughter, Bailey, in 1998 and took a short break before moving to Up and Over Farm in Weddington where she taught, trained, co-managed the barn and was finally able to have another horse of her own. When Up and Over closed, she leased a farm for her customers and herself until she moved to Hidden Valley Stables in 2006, where she was Barn Manager for a year and a half. After 20 years in the business, she decided in 2007 that a much needed break was in order. She took 2 years off to refocus and spend time being a mom, and has now returned to Hidden Valley with a new outlook on horses and life. She has always believed that horses are truly special gifts, and has had the privilege of learning some of life's biggest lessons from them.
